This simple tutorial tells you how to cut the Nokia devices safely and easily using the latest version 2 for Symbian HelloOX! I will also note some precautions to take before and during the process of hacking. Also, before you cut HelloOX should know what 2.0 is and if at all necessary to really Hack phone.

So do you really need Hacking and Modding your phone? The answer to this is not really straight-forward and there is always a risk with hacking your devices. In general terms you should only hack your Nokia devices that are based on Symbian OS S60 Feature Pack 1 (FP1), Feature Pack 2 (FP2) and Feature Pack 3 (FP3) if you want to bypass the restrictions set by your device’s Firmware when installing any applications, games or themes on your Nokia.

Hacking also eliminates all sorts of Certificate errors that most people frequently faces during the installation of apps and games that are unsigned. It also enables your Firmware to install many unsigned apps directly on your device.

If you already know how to get your applications, games, themes and you have your certificate and key file with you, then you can download and install the unsigned Helloox and install on their devices after signing. I personally do not recommend piracy, and that is usually not necessary and you are satisfied with your current operating system Symbian, built in office. However, if you really want to learn to cut and do all the advanced things with the phone and skip all the trouble of signing in full after this tutorial is for you.
The fundamental question here is – What exactly HelloOX 2 for Symbian?

Well the basic answer is that it is independent Helloox Symbian 3rd edition and 5th edition support that simply removes the application of security measures installed on the device by the manufacturer or network operator. Hacking the smartphone lets you unlock some surprising hidden features (including installation of some unsigned applications), functions and safety standards in your phone, which can not otherwise be available to any device settings.

Hacking the phone is only recommended for me to install lots of applications and games that are manufactured to meet very complex functions and comes with powerful features.

Process:

The process to successfully hack your Nokia devices is actually an one step process but it does have a couple of pre-requisites before you can install it on your phone. The Prerequisites that I am talking about are listed below.

Prerequisites of Helloox:

Hacking through Helloox requires the Helloox 2.0 sis Installer.
Obviously! Without this file can not proceed with the hack to everyone. Devices for something else I should know – in many other places that you can see that the installation procedure is different from us and that is because before version 2, Helloox – required the installation of two different files (both FP1 and FP3 required the installation of 2 files – MapDrives and Helloox, while the FP 3 additional devices need a patch called InstallServer), but the new Helloox version 2 (or more) only requires that you install a single file. So do not feel confused – this is following the right guide and the updated version!

Hacking through Helloox require your very own IMEI specific, Certificate and Key File!

First Download all the files needed for hacking your Nokia symbian phone. I have provided an all in one download below:

Precautions BEFORE the Helloox Installation:

Charge the battery and keep your charger close after loading is complete.

Stop all applications from your device is your Symbian Symbian. Many applications do not appear in the list of running applications, administrators can use to kill Symbian tasks manually.

If possible, take a backup of your mobile using Nokia PC Suite. Make sure you do a full backup once they do – store it on your PC (no phone).

If possible, make sure your firmware version is compatible with the installation of Helloox. You can do this by finding out about the firmware version using Nokia Software Updater and then Googling your firmware version with Helloox keywords on Google.

Make sure your phone runs on Symbian OS operating system or 3rd year or 5th edition of the OS version.

Make sure your Helloox supports their FP (feature pack). Helloox supports FP1, FP2, FP3 and FP5 devices.

Make sure you have all the files needed for the process of hacking.

If possible, bring telephony services temporarily offline during the installation process.

Make sure you follow this tutorial to avoid mishaps and accidents.

Precautions DURING the Installation Process:

Make sure you do not run any other application when doing the installation of Helloox or any of its related files.

Make sure you install the files in the correct order as described in this tutorial or guide.

Make sure you never cancel the installation of Helloox during the installation process, this can seriously hamper your phone’s features. If at any point you feel that the installation is taking a bit too much time – then wait a bit more! It will finish – trust me!

Here is a general rule of thumb – the entire process of installing Helloox should not take you more than 3 minutes in general – but there are also a very few reports that it took over 20 minutes to install completely. So do not panic if you realize it is taking you a bit more than the usual time it takes it install properly.

Hacking is really a very simple, straight forward process and most people simply needs to install Helloox 2 to get it over with. The tag “Hacking” implies something difficult but I can assure you that it is not at all complicated in any way.

Some Common Issues & Solutions:

Issue #1: When running Helloox, installation freezes with a display message of “Installing Root Certificates“.

Solution: In case your installation or application freezes when “Installing Root Certificates” (“Mapping drive…” -> “Unpacking file…” -> “Activating file system…” -> “Unmapping drive… -> “Installing Root Cert…”) all you have to do is cancel the existing Helloox installation and run the installer for the second time. When running the installation for the second time you will experience no such process hang ups or hung installation. Additionally make sure that no other applications/hacks/widgets are running in the background.

Issue #2: You are unable to view a specific folder while taking a particular step which involves hacking through Helloox or any of its elements.

Solution: At first you will need a good file explorer like LCG X-Plore installed on your phone. The regular File Explorers for Symbian usually do not serve the purpose. Additionally, you will need to turn on the option to view hidden folders and systems files X-Plore before accessing certain hidden files or folders. To do this successfully you will have to launch X-Plore and click “0″ (zero) OR manually go to the following location of X-Plore: Menu – Tools – Options – Show Hidden Files & Show System Folders & Show ROM Drives & Show RAM Drives. Once you are there you will have turn on all the 4 options (tick mark them by clicking the OK button).

Issue #3: I am using Nokia E51 and I have heard that Helloox 2 does not work on it yet? Does it?

Solution: Helloox works with the Nokia E51 smartphones. If you are a Nokia E51 user then you should first try Helloox 2.03. Once you have done that and you are sure that it does not work on your phone – only then – try the Helloox version 1.03. Helloox 1.03 should work with the Nokia E51 smartphones prior to firmware version v400.34.011.

Issue#4: Helloox freezes when I run the application and try to apply the patches that Helloox contains. The screen displays the following – ‘Applying Patches‘ throughout the hang-up process.

Solution: When you have realized that Helloox have frozen while “Applying Patches” you will have to cancel the operation of “Applying Patches”. To do this you will have to press (sometimes long press) the RED Call button of your Nokia device. Now change the date of your phone to February 10th 2008 and exit phone time/date settings menu. Now switch your phone’s Profile to Offline or Flight. Now, without uninstalling the existing Helloox installation of your phone, reinstall Helloox on your phone memory. Before the re-installation make sure that the new Helloox installer is signed by you, for your IMEI, by a 17 graded developer certificate Once your reinstallation is done – try running Helloox and you will experience no such process hang-ups during the “Applying Patches” operation.

Issue #5: When trying to install Helloox on my device, the installation stalls with an error message displaying “Required Access Not Granted” or “Required Application Access Not Granted“. Is there a workaround?

Solution: Yes there is! This is an certificate issue and it can be easily solved. The error “Required Application Access Not Granted” occurs when the Helloox installer tries to install “Modo” – a file Explorer that comes built in with Helloox. Installing Modo is optional and if you have a similar file explorer such as LCG X-Plore or Y-Browser already installed then you can skip the installation of Modo and you will experience no such error messages while running the Helloox installer. Also, if you have signed Helloox with your own IMEI specific developer certificate then you will not face this issue either.

Otherwise, if you really want to install Modo with Helloox running side by side, you can also install Modo as a standalone application. Just download the unsigned Modo standalone app and sign it with a 17 graded signing certificate (developer cert) before installing it. After the successful installation of Modo simply run the Helloox installer and you should be able to run Helloox without any error messages regarding application access.

The basic reason for the error message “Required Application Access Not Granted” is because of your certificate’s limited capability to perform advanced operations. If you have a developer certificate from any of the 2 sites I recommended in the post about “Certificate, Key & Signing” then you should sign Helloox or Modo with that certificate and I assure you that you will not face any kind of errors whatsoever.

Issue #6: What are the differences between a “Partial Hack” and a “Full Hack“? What are they?

Solution: The difference between a partial hack as opposed to a full hack is that the partial hack only allows the firmware to be hacked through the Helloox method while the full hack means that the firmware is cross hackable with different hacking methods other than Helloox (like HelloCarbide). A full hack also allows you to switch capability checking off completely for all programs and applications and the full hack also lets you to install custom installserver.exe files on your device to define your own set of rules.

Issue #7: The Helloox application hangs up or freezes with the following message displayed on the screen “Unpacking Files“.

Solution: Simply cancel the process by clicking the Red Call Button and Restart your smartphone. Once the phone has been restarted launch Helloox again only after turning the profile of your phone to OFFLINE or FLIGHT Mode. You should then be able to install Helloox smoothly! In case you still experience a freeze – you may need to flip your default phone settings to Factory Settings (not recommended for newbies) and try again.

Issue #8: The Helloox application hangs up or freezes with the following message displayed on the screen “Installing Root Certificate“.

Solution: Simply cancel the process by clicking the Red Call Button and Restart your smartphone. Once the phone has been restarted launch Helloox again only after turning the profile of your phone to OFFLINE or FLIGHT Mode. You should then be able to install Helloox smoothly! In case you still experience a freeze – you may need to flip your default phone settings to Factory Settings (not recommended for newbies) and try again.

Issue #9: The Helloox application hangs up or freezes with the following message displayed on the screen “Mapping Drives“.

Solution: Simply cancel the process by clicking the Red Call Button and Restart your smartphone. Once the phone has been restarted launch Helloox again only after turning the profile of your phone to OFFLINE or FLIGHT Mode. You should then be able to install Helloox smoothly! In case you still experience a freeze – you may need to flip your default phone settings to Factory Settings (not recommended for newbies) and try again.

Issue #10: The installation of Helloox quits and your phone displays the error message “Unable To Install. Constrained By The Certificate” when I launch the Helloox installer.

Solution: This is a certificate issue and it can be solved if you sign your Helloox installer with your own IMEI specific developer certificate and key file.

Issue #11: The installation of Helloox quits and your phone displays the error message “Certificate Error. Contact The Application Supplier“.

Solution: This is another certificate issue and it can be easily solved when you install a signed version of Helloox. Depending on your phone’s firmware the signed versions I have included within the download may or may not work on your phone ( no harm in trying though!). However, if you do sign the unsigned version that I have included in the download, with your own IMEI specific Cert & Key file then it is bound to work!

Issue #12: Can I undo the Helloox hack after I have successfully hacked my phone with Helloox once? Can I uninstall Helloox after it has finished hacking?

Solution: Yes, you can undo the hack on your phone with the “Undo Hack” button, however, you cannot uninstall Helloox and expect to keep your phone remain hacked. Once you remove the application – the hack will disappear. The applications/games/themes that you have already installed with Helloox will keep on working unless you remove them from your phone with the application manager.

Issue #13: Will the phone remain hacked after I update my Nokia firmware with a newer version using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) software?

Solution: Depending on your phone’s model and existing firmware the hack may or may not remain intact after a firmware update, it is quite difficult to have a specific answer without knowing about your Symbian OS device and Firmware version. In most instances, the hack does remain valid and working after a successful Firmware Flash or Update but there are also reports that you may need to hack again once you have updated to a newer firmware. Check the Helloox Firmware Compatibility Chart above for firmware specific info.

Issue #14: My firmware is not listed above or I can’t seem to find it anywhere within the compatibility chart? Will Helloox work with my unlisted firmware? Can you help?

Solution: Yes I can help or at least try my best to do so but please be sure that your firmware is not listed above. You can do a quick CTRL+F from your browser while you are browsing in this page to find your firmware version. The list is not in alphabetical order so CTRL+F really helps you to if I actually have listed your version above or not. Once you are sure that it is not there (maybe I have missed it or maybe it is new) on the chart simply let me know your firmware version along with your phone’s model number through the comment form below and I will update the chart ASAP with your firmware version and Helloox compatibility in it!

Steps After Successful Installation:

After completing the installation of your Nokia Helloox in FP1, FP2, FP3 or FP5 Symbian OS based smartphone will run the feature set that bundles a Helloox application. I have compiled a self-explanatory, screenshot based tutorial a few steps you can and should take after installing Helloox in Nokia Symbian phones.

Still, please allow me to explain the steps shown on the image tutorial above – the first image shows the My Own folder where the Helloox icon appear once you have installed it successfully.When you launch it for the very first time Helloox will automatically configure itself by at first mapping the drives of your device and then by installing ROMPATCHER Plus. Finally an optional pop up window will appear asking you if you want to install Modo – I recommend you do allow the installation of Modo. After that the application will quit itself and apparently – your phone will be hacked safely!!

However, on a few FP2 devices you may need to manually launch ROMPATCHER+ from the application folder and then browse to locate Open For All. Once you are there Apply or Select the option “Open For All” and “Add To Auto”. You will notice that the red icon left to Open For All automatically turns Green to confirm that it is set to automatically start every time your phone is restarted. This allows your FP2 devices to have a mirror ROM on your RAM, allowing your device to accept and run custom security rules instead of the default ones. The custom rules can be allowing your device to skip certificate errors, turn off beep while recording any voice call with a call manager, changing your Nokia home screen etc.

Once you have finished installing Helloox 2 and have also successfully completed the steps I mentioned above – your phone will be hacked safely and it will allow you to install games, applications and themes that are unsigned without any annoying error and prompts that otherwise is built in within all Nokia smartphones.

Wikipedia was offline Wednesday afternoon after an overheating problem at the online encyclopedia's European data center.
Wikipedia's technical blog said the site's servers shut themselves down to avoid damage from the heat.
Administrators tried to shift traffic to a cluster of servers in Florida, but "it turned out that this failover mechanism was now broken, causing the DNS resolution of Wikimedia sites to stop working globally," according to the blog.
"This problem was quickly resolved, but unfortunately it may take up to an hour before access is restored for everyone, due to caching effects," the blog said.
Trying to access wikipedia.com and wikipedia.org at about 2:45 p.m. ET produced a navigation error message.
One post to Wikipedia's technical blog, by a user named Jimmy, found some humor in the situation: "And so we remember Thursday, March 25, 2010 as the day every English speaking student failed their research papers."

The answer: it depends.

The United States, Canada and some other countries (such as Saint Pierre & Miquelon and Turks & Caicos Islands) extended Daylight Savings Time in 2007. The new start date for DST is the second Sunday in March (previously the first Sunday in April) through to the first Sunday in November (previously the last Sunday in October).

That is March 14, 2010.

You can thank (or blame) President Bush for signing into law a broad energy bill that extended Daylight Saving Time by four weeks starting in 2007. Those four extra weeks were supposed to bring massive savings in energy bills.

But now that I’m in Italy, Daylight Savings begins on March 28, 2010 (the last Sunday in March). In fact, since 1996, European Summer Time is standard across the EU.

So for two weeks, the time difference to North America will be off by an hour! So watch those conference calls!

Exceptions to the Rule in North America (and elsewhere)

In Canada, the majority of Saskatchewan and parts of north-eastern British Columbia do not observe DST but instead stay on “standard time” all year long.

In the USA, Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Nation), Hawaii, the territories of Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa are the only places in the USA that do not observe DST.

Effects Similar to Time Zone Travels by Air

The one hour time difference, either from Standard Time to Daylight Savings Time, or traveling though several time zones makes a difference on your sleep patterns. At least temporarily.

Daylight Savings Time will create an adjustment period, similar to long distance travel (cross country or overseas), as it could take up to one day per time zone traveled. My advice is to try to fight it right away, even if it means a few groggy mornings. It’s really mind over matter.

Effects of Sleep

Medal Count 2010 Winter Olympics

They have won 14 gold medals the pervious record was of 13 gold medals held jointly by Russia and Norway. Canada earned its last gold medal on the final day of the winter Olympics in ice hockey finals. This was perhaps the most aspired medal for Canadians.

The all time medal winner Norway finished at 4th place with 23 medals while Austria finished at 5th place with 16 medals. The Russians Federation was at 6th place on medal count 2010 winter Olympics. Koreans have emerged as a major team in winter Olympics with 14 medals.

Norway still tops the all time medal count with 280 medals and United States is just behind her with 216 medals.

USA is top of the table with 37 medals including 9 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze. Alpine skier Bode Miller won a set of medals, gold, silver and a bronze. Short track speed skater Aplo Anton Ohno also won three medals making total Olympics medals eight. Bill Demon was the first-ever American who won a gold medal in Nordic Combined.

No. 2 position was caught by Germany who won 30 medals including 10 gold, 13 silver and 7 bronze. They won 10 gold medals, second highest after Canada.

Third position was won by host Canada with 26 medals including 14 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze.

Norway finished event in fourth place winning 9 gold medals, equivalent to USA. Norwegian Marit Bjoergen won five medals in cross-country skiing, three gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Hawaii Under Tsunami Warning

Hawaii is under a tsunami warning following a massive earthquake that struck central Chile.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also said a tsunami advisory was in effect for the coast of California and an Alaskan coastal island area from Kodiak to Attu.

The center says a tsunami has been generated that could cause damage along coastlines of all islands in the Hawaii. It said a tsunami in California and Alaska was possible.

The Ewa (EH-vah) Beach, Hawaii-based tsunami center says the first waves are expected to arrive at 11:19 a.m. Saturday (4:19 p.m. EST).

The center called for "urgent action to protect lives and property" in Hawaii, which is among 53 nations and territories subject to tsunami warnings.

The largest earthquake ever recorded struck the same area of Chile in 1960. The deadly wave that it caused raced across the Pacific and hit the Hilo area of the Big Island, where 61 people were killed.

UPDATE: 4:15 a.m. -- Tsunami generated -- CNN International reports that the earthquake has generated a Tsunami. Warnings have been issued for Chile and Peru. A tsunami watch has been issued for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica.

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP)-- A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake capable of tremendous damage struck central Chile early Saturday, shaking the capital for a minute and a half and setting off a tsunami. Buildings collapsed and phone lines and electricity were down, making the extent of the damage difficult to determine.

The quake hit 200 miles (325 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Santiago, at a depth of 22 miles (35 kilometers) at 3:34 a.m. (0634 GMT; 1:34 a.m. EST), the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The epicenter was just 70 miles (115 kilometers) from Concepcion, Chile's second-largest city, where more than 200,000 people live along the Bio Bio river, and 60 miles from the ski town of Chillan, a gateway to Andean ski resorts that was destroyed in a 1939 earthquake.

An Associated Press Television News cameraman said some buildings collapsed in Santiago and power was out in parts of the city. Phone lines were either down or busy, making confirmation of damage difficult elsewhere, especially further south toward the epicenter. The quake was felt in Argentina as well.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Chile and Peru, and a less-urgent tsunami watch for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica.

"Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated. It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts," the center said.

The U.S. west coast tsunami warning center said it did not expect a tsunami along the west of the U.S. or Canada but was continuing to monitor the situation.

The largest earthquake ever recorded struck the same area of Chile on May 22, 1960. The magnitude-9.5 quake killed 1,655 people and left 2 million homeless. The tsunami that it caused killed people in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines and caused damage to the west coast of the United States.

VIZIO Internet App HDTVs launch later this year, for less than you might expect

Sure VIZIO only just showed off new updates in its high end XVT series, but it's already planning the next generation of LCDs with VIZIO Internet Apps included. Packing widget functionality, 802.11n wireless networking and slider QWERTY Bluetooth remote, the SV422XVT, SV472XVT and VF552XVT Connected HDTVs are coming home in November, October and December, respectively. Already on deck to serve up content for your widgets are Vudu, Revision3, Facebook, Twitter, Rhapsody, Blockbuster OnDemand, Showtime, Flickr and more. The biggest surprise? There's apparently no price premium planned for these features, with the 55-inch clocking in at the same $2,199 price as the model it's replacing, though the 47-inch jumps $200 over the previous edition to $1,699, while adding the local dimming LED backlit technology previously reserved for the 55-inch. The 42-inch will be the first and cheapest available at $1,199 (sans LED) -- we'll see if that bar is low enough to get viewers to jump into the internet-connected display future.

Major East Coast snowstorm creeps over New Jersey

A slow-moving snowstorm that moved up the East Coast is expected to create a wintry mess in the Garden State today.

Packing strong winds and heavy moisture, the winter weather system triggered flight cancellations, office closures and blizzard warnings in parts of the state.

Highway crews and hospital workers remained on high alert, and police were advising drivers to stay off the roads.

Blizzard conditions are expected Saturday morning along the southern stretch of the Shore. Snow was predicted to reach 20 inches or more in coastal areas, and nearly as high in the Philadelphia suburbs, with less in central and northern New Jersey.

Along with the snowflakes — and worries about power outages and messy roads — the storm also carried a bit of irony. Just as the Garden State was bracing for the wallop from this latest storm, the federal government declared disaster areas in seven South Jersey counties that were hit with a massive late-December snowstorm.

The declaration from the Federal Emergency Management Agency affects Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester, Ocean and Salem counties which were pummeled with up to 2 feet of snow and high winds Dec. 19-20.

That area of the state sustained significant damage, requiring a substantial amount of money for cleanup and repairs. A disaster declaration allows the state and local governments to recoup most of the money spent on the storm cleanup.

“It’s actually very good news for all of the declared counties,” said Ed Conover, Atlantic County’s deputy emergency management director. “With the money from the federal government, we won’t have to cut other programs later in the year.”

That pounding came a month after many of those same counties were lashed by a three-day nor’easter that flooded roads, ravaged beaches and undermined fragile infrastructure.

NJDOT says 'It looks like we're gonna get hit' as crews mobilize for the snow storm

The snow blast, meanwhile, was unleashing a string of hunker-down bulletins.

At Newark Liberty International Airport, Continental Airlines canceled flights bound for Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., through today. Alerts were issued for all sorts of weekend closings, ranging from New Jersey’s motor-vehicle centers and a job fair at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson today, to the state sectional track and field championships in Toms River on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

At Mountainside Hospital in Glen Ridge, 15 patient rooms were set aside so nurses and doctors on today’s roster could catch some sleep. NJ Transit kept updating its online “Storm Watch,” and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey did the same on its “Big Dig” link.

“Hopefully, most people will wake up, pull the covers over their heads and decide not to go out on the road,” State Police Superintendent Rick Fuentes said. “The less cars we have on the road, the less accidents.”

As the snowstorm bared down, though, Dave Kingdon of Ocean Gate Yacht Sales told the Bayville boat broker’s 110 fans on Facebook to come on down to Booth 256 at the Atlantic City International Boatshow. “Free snow shovel with the purchase of any new Hunter Sailboat,” he wrote on the social-networking page.

The normal Saturday crowd, it seemed, arrived a day early as the storm approached with all the power of a speedboat’s wake.

“This place is just packed today,” Kingdon said.

What Super Bowl?

The super snowstorm — whose predicted severity prompted a blizzard warning until 7 p.m. today in southern New Jersey and a state of emergency in Camden — was upending a weekend otherwise dominated by Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints.

Everywhere, towns and cities were mobilizing men, women and materials, and salt — lots of salt — as much as 900 tons in Cape May County alone.

The snow-fighting arsenal looked something like this: Middlesex’s 80 trucks were fitted with plow blades; Union called up crews for 70 snow plows and 40 spreaders; Essex had about 30 contractors with 200 pieces of equipment at its disposal; the state had 500 plows and spreaders and a reserve force of 1,450 contractors to tackle stretches such as the New Jersey Turnpike.

There was even a reminder about snow etiquette.

The city of Newark issued a reminder that fines for improper snow removal could range from $100 to $1,000. “When you shovel snow, please keep it off the street,” said Mayor Cory Booker.

At the 6th Avenue Electronics store in Woodbridge, the retailer was bracing more for bargain shoppers than snow ahead of the Super Bowl. The afternoon store traffic was normal for a Friday, said Scott Rosen, the manager. No signs of pre-storm early birds.

But he wasn’t worried. Customers will come out and buy a wide-screen TV for the big game, he said. “They get stir-crazy,” Rosen said of those supposedly homebound because of the snow.

Buy, and they have a story to tell, he said. “It’s like an ego thing. ‘You see that TV, I got it during the worst blizzard ever.’ That has happened more than once.”

At the Wildwood Convention Center, the All Breed Dog show, which started Wednesday, was destined to continue, simply because the vendors were already in town.

“A couple of inches or 2 feet, it’s going to take place,” said Sue Shomo, president of the sponsoring Boardwalk Kennel Club.

Farewell, Coach Mike Dunleavy

They'll never forget Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy, dangled out of a window two years ago by his owner, who lasted until Thursday -- time enough to turn the team's roster around, if not its fortunes -- when he resigned.

With one year left on his contract at $5.4 million, Dunleavy will remain as general manager, the other half of the title he has formally held for two seasons.

If this is it as a coach, he leaves with one more distinction to add to an NBA Finals appearance (Lakers, 1991) and the Clippers' first foray beyond the first round (2006):

Longest-serving lame duck in NBA history.

It has been two years, two weeks and a day since Jan. 21, 2008, when Clippers owner Donald T. Sterling vented his displeasure in an interview with The Times' T.J. Simers.

With GM Elgin Baylor and President Andy Roeser present, Simers asked Sterling, who in happier times declared "I love Mike Dunleavy," if he still loved his coach.

"I don't think anyone really loves their coach," Sterling said. "Do you think anybody loves their coach? They're just a necessity."

Since then, five coaches in their first full season have been fired (Phoenix's Terry Porter, Sacramento's Reggie Theus, Detroit's Michael Curry, Charlotte's Sam Vincent, Milwaukee's Larry Krystkowiak).

In a major upset, Dunleavy wasn't fired. Instead, he accepted the inevitable and resigned gracefully, thanking Sterling for his support.

This unprecedented stability in Clippers history while posting win totals of 40-23-19, plus 21 this season, was based on something more tangible than trust or affection: Dunleavy's four-year, $24-million contract, which Sterling had no intention of paying off, no matter how upset he was.

It was probably what in 2008 set off the reclusive, soft-spoken Sterling, dismayed at the payoff he was getting, knowing he had two choices: Sit back and watch, or fire Dunleavy and pour that money down a hole.

It turned out to be the best money Sterling didn't throw away because in the time that has passed, Dunleavy and his protege, personnel director Neil Olshey, turned the roster from old and creaky to young, talented and athletic, with a maximum salary slot for next summer's free agents within reach.

The night in 2008 when Sterling went off, the Clippers started Sam Cassell, Corey Maggette, Tim Thomas, Quinton Ross and Chris Kaman.

Only Kaman remains. Rookie Al Thornton, who was on the bench, is the only other remaining Clipper.

More than making up for the losses of Maggette and the injured Elton Brand, who would leave in summer 2008, the Clippers have since acquired Baron Davis, Eric Gordon, Marcus Camby, Zach Randolph (and traded), DeAndre Jordan and the prize they pulled out of the Cracker Jack box but have yet to unwrap, Blake Griffin.

If the 2007-08 season was a seven-month bummer, it was a laugh riot compared with last season's mail-it-in effort, which they finished at 19-63.

If any coach and any team needed a good start, it was them. Instead, Griffin was lost before the opener and Gordon eight games into the season.

With the team off to a 4-9 start, realizing his contract was losing its power as a protective force field, Dunleavy began a dialogue with Sterling.

"I called him after the bad loss to Phoenix on Christmas," Dunleavy said Thursday. "I told him, 'I'm working as hard as I can, I still think we have a team that can make the playoffs, but I understand the pressure you're under. If you feel you have to make a move, I just want you to know I want to remain a part of this.' "

The Clippers righted themselves, showing they were an actual basketball team, climbing to 17-18, looking as if they could reach .500 on Jan. 12, leading the Grizzlies, 89-77, with :47 left in the third quarter . . . when the game was halted and the arena was emptied because of a broken water line.

When play resumed, the Grizzlies rallied to win, which turned out to be the first of 10 losses in the Clippers' next 14 games.

Oh, and they also learned Griffin wouldn't return this season.

With hope, and the team, fading, Dunleavy called Sterling after last week's losses at 3-40 New Jersey and 9-38 Minnesota and says the owner was supportive.

When they returned from their 2-6 trip, Dunleavy had another in a series of similar conversations with Roeser. This time, all decided it was a good time to go. Assistant Kim Hughes is head coach for the rest of this season.

How long Dunleavy stays as GM remains to be seen. According to his contract, next season's $5.4-million salary will be paid over two years, but the Clippers aren't in the habit of paying GMs $2.7 million.

Actually, no Clippers exec ever made $0.7 million.

Of course, Dunleavy could accept a longer payout, say 2.7 million years.

In any case, he's gone, but he's still here and everyone feels good about it, closing a remarkable era in Clippers history, indeed.

Hughes plans to have Clippers run more

Mike Dunleavy walked into Kim Hughes’ office at the Los Angeles Clippers’ practice facility on Wednesday, told his longtime assistant he was stepping down as coach and asked if he’d like to take over.

“He said it’s the right time,” Hughes said. “I said OK, I would take the job.”

And just like that the Clippers switched coaches. Saddled with a 21-28 record and stuck in 12th place in the Western Conference the team announced the move in a statement, saying the decision was mutual. Dunleavy will remain the team’s general manager.

“I’ve come to the conclusion that this is the ideal time for me to direct my efforts toward the many personnel opportunities that lie before us, such as the trade market, the draft and the free-agent process,” Dunleavy said in the statement. “We fully expect to be active and productive on all those fronts.”

Hughes has never been a head coach, but has filled in for Dunleavy on occasion. He has been on the Clippers’ staff since Dunleavy took over as coach in 2003.

The Clippers began the season with playoff hopes, but promptly lost their first four games. No. 1 pick Blake Griffin(notes) has yet to play a game and will miss the rest of the season after breaking his left kneecap in the preseason. The Clippers just returned home from an eight-game trip in which they won only twice.

“It is a challenge but I’m not afraid of it,” Hughes told Yahoo! Sports. “We’ve had chemistry problems. We have to get on the same page. Maybe with a different voice, it will be different.”

Hughes said the Clippers will run the floor more to “accentuate” the strengths of point guard Baron Davis(notes).

Clippers center Marcus Camby(notes) said he thinks Hughes will make a “terrific” coach.

“I think guys really like playing for Kim,” said Camby, who knows Hughes from their days together in Denver. “When Mike has stepped out and Kim has taken his place, guys were much more relaxed with him and played well.”

Asked about his chances of retaining the head-coaching job on a full-time basis, Hughes said, “probably bleak. But it depends on how we play.”

“I feel bad for Mike,” Hughes said. “He’s a friend. He taught me a lot. He told me that if you can’t get it together the coach will always go. But I’m not afraid of a challenge.”

Facebook has a new layout. There are many important changes to Facebook's user interface.

One of the biggest Facebook layout updates is that the search box has moved from the top right of the screen to a more prominent left hand position improving navigation.

Another change in the new Facebook layout is that the list of online friends is instantly available. You do not have to click on the 'chat bar' to view which friends are online.

Facebook is proving again how adaptable it is to the needs of those who use Facebook.
Subtle changes in the new Facebook layout will be rolled out overnight tonight.

Sweat Lodge Deaths: James Arthur Ray Arrested

Self-help guru James Arthur Ray was arrested Wednesday in Arizona on manslaughter charges in the deaths of three people during a sweat lodge ceremony.

Ray was being held on $5 million bond at a sheriff's station in Prescott awaiting transfer to the Camp Verde Detention Center, according to a statement by Yavapai County Sheriff Steve Waugh.

"Sheriff Waugh would like to thank the victim’s families for their patience while the Sheriff’s Office completed a thorough and comprehensive investigation," the statement says. "With the arrest of James Ray, Sheriff Waugh hopes the families of the three victims will now have some measure of closure to this tragedy."

Ray was arrested without incident at his attorney's office in Prescott.

Cleansing Ceremony

The "cleansing" ceremony led by Ray at the Angel Valley Retreat Center near Sedona ended in the deaths of participants Kirby Brown, 38, James Shore, 40, and Liz Neuman, 49, and injuries to 18 others.

During the "Spiritual Warrior" five-day retreat, for which Ray charged approximately $9,000, participants were pushed to their spiritual and physical limits by fasting for 36 hours and cramming into a 415-square foot, sauna-like hut – essentially a wood frame covered in tarps and blankets. People were passing out and vomiting, but still urged to stay inside the sweat lodge.

After the deaths, Ray, the author of Harmonic Wealth: The Secret of Attracting the Life You Want, expressed sorrow but continued with his work, saying, "I, too, want to know what happened that caused this horrible tragedy."

Ray’s attorney, Luis Li, issued a statement Wednesday saying the charges shouldn’t have been filed.

"The charges are unjust and we will prove it in court," the statement says. "This was a terrible accident – but it was an accident, not a criminal act. James Ray cooperated at every step of the way, providing information and witnesses to the authorities showing that no one could have foreseen this accident. We will now present this evidence in a court of law, and we are confident that Mr. Ray will be exonerated."

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez defends signing Florida recruit Demar Dorsey

Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez said his program did its homework on top recruit Demar Dorsey and the elite defensive back was a good fit for Michigan on and off the field.

Rodriguez, during a news conference Wednesday to tout his latest recruiting class, defended his decision to recruit Dorsey.
Speaking in generalities and exhorting journalists to focus on the positives of a top-20 class, Rodriguez provided no details regarding his biggest recruit’s legal history, which has spread through fan message boards in recent days.
The Free Press found a Demar Dorsey who was charged with two felonies a month apart in Florida’s Broward County in 2008. According to online circuit court records, the young man was arrested July 21, 2008 and charged with robbery with a deadly weapon. He was 16 at the time but was charged as an adult. Bond was set at $50,000. Dorsey went to trial that November and was acquitted.
Records also show the same person was charged Aug. 22, 2008 with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. He had turned 17 five days earlier. Bond was set at $3,500. Prosecutors dismissed the charge that December but records did not indicate why.
“I don’t think it’s fair to the young man and his family to pass judgments on something before you know the whole story,” Rodriguez said. “As a coach we get a chance to go visit these kids at the school, at their home and have them come up here and spend a weekend. You get to know them; certainly you get enough time to research and learn the whole story, not just what somebody’s written out there.”
Rodriguez was referencing the message boards and blogs that had been speculating about Dorsey’s past and how that might affect his future.
“Sometimes people are too quick to judge on something they read on the Internet,” Rodriguez said. “I think that’s dangerous to do that.”
The coach went on to say that every recruit had to meet certain standards. He said that current players were consulted after they hosted potential players.
“We ask our players: ‘Would he be a good teammate, be good for the program, will he be a good guy, be a good fit for Michigan?' "
Dorsey’s prep coach said yes.
“He was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mark James said of Dorsey’s legal troubles. The football coach at Anderson High in Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., said his defensive back had recently been the victim of negative, even vindictive recruiting.
James would not name the school he thought turned on Dorsey. But his past became the subject of message board chatter only a couple of weeks ago, after he de-committed from Florida.
“It’s a shame that schools play that game,” James said. “If he had gone to a certain school, none of that would have came out. He’s done his due penance.”
On the field, James described Dorsey as the best overall athlete in the nation. He said he ran a blazing fast 40 and 100 and had a ton of interceptions. He can play offense or defense.
James said Dorsey really connected with the U-M staff.
Rodriguez said it was important to view the entire context when recruiting players who had been accused of wrongdoing.
“You have to look into why he was in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said. “But you don’t pass judgment on him when he did that as a juvenile.”
Rodriguez wouldn’t elaborate on what he found while investigating Dorsey’s background. But he did say this about his team and the recruiting process in general: “There’s nobody on this football team that we’ve signed that has a felony conviction. There’s nobody on this football team we signed that has a misdemeanor conviction.”
Herbert Bynes, Dorsey’s defensive coordinator in high school, said U-M would be good for his former player.
“It was a good choice,” Bynes said. “He needed to get away. The kid has been through a lot.”

Review Conditions

SPB Weather 1.00 was installed on a Nokia 5800, a Symbian 9.4, S60 5th edition device.

Installation

SPB Weather comes as a .sis files and can be installed using the Nokia Application Installer.

First View

SPB Weather takes away the drudgery of having to use the never ending hierarchical-menu-driven S60 interface and replaces it with a UI refresh that brings a renewed hope for S60 touch.

Main Review

The whole 3.2″ screen of the Nokia 5800 is dedicated to displaying the weather of a single city. This means a great amount of weather information can be gathered in a single view! The screen real estate is divided into three parts. The top part of the screen, [or the left side, in landscape mode], shows a graphic, the day’s weather in a large font and a smaller weather list for Morning, Day and Evening on the side.
The middle part of the screen, which is the largest, displays the weather for the next 4 days with a graphic and the high and low for that day.
The third part of the screen, has the controls for the configuration settings button, weather update button, 3D Globe button and the exit button.

The main screen also shows when the weather was updated last. You can refresh the weather by just touching the weather update button.

Touching the city on the screen, brings up additional weather info – Humidity, Pressure, Wind speed, etc. Touching the return arrow on the right takes you back to the main screen for the city.

Touching the day’s weather forecast brings up additional details for that day. For each day, the weather for Night, Morning, Day and Evening is displayed, with humidity, wind speed and a graphic.

In the landscape, mode, only the weather for Night and Morning can be displayed, so you can use kinetic scrolling to scroll down to view the weather for Day and Evening.

The return arrow is implemented uniformly in all screens to take you back to the main screen. All new screens are brought up with cool animations that’s pleasing to the eye but doesn’t mar the experience by being slow or too long to distract the user.
Even if 10 cities are configured, navigation is very easy. Just by pushing the screen left or right brings up a new screen with the weather for the next city, just like navigating a photo album.
The 3D Globe button animates a globe that can display information about the Cities, Clouds, Sky, Temperature and Rains for the cities configured. Touching the play button animates the globe.

A zoom in/ zoom out option is available that appears when you touch the screen, almost like the Ovi Maps zoom function. The animation is quite realistic, like the weather channel.
The configuration settings, still opens up the S60 menu structure, to add new cities and set other options, like automatic schedule update, units to use for display – Celsius or Fahrenheit, etc.
Adding a new city is a simple operation. SPB Weather supports over 10,000 cities all over the world. Each city in the list is prefixed with the country’s name in short. This is better than have to select a city in two passes – first the country and then the city. There is also an option to select the city by GPS.

Handling

With photo album-like navigation, kinetic scrolling, large touch buttons and limited dependency on S60’s hierarchical menu-structure for only the initial setup, greatly improves navigation.
Usually frequent operations like weather update, exit, etc are hidden in the a menu structure, thus making it cumbersome to update the weather quickly. SPB have changed the approach and this makes the user experience delightful.

Weaknesses

I didn’t find any weaknesses in SPB Weather.

Conclusion

There are so many weather forecast reporting applications out there for S60 on Symbian OS but SPB Weather is the first one that actually makes the weather report rather interesting. SPB have shown that you can actually bring cool animation, one-touch access to most functions and present a great user experience on the S60 UI.
For the functional simplicity in using the touch interface, great display, innovative features and accurate weather reporting, SPB Weather is a must have and I’ll give it 4 of 5. SPB Weather can be purchased or downloaded for a trial here.

Woods Might Never be Looked at the Same

PHILADELPHIA — The passenger was waiting in a long line at Heathrow on Tuesday when he came face-to-face with an Accenture advertisement on the wall showing Tiger Woods walking through the tall grass with a club in his hand.

The man stared for the longest time, then turned away and said solemnly, "I can't believe it."

If this episode ever ends, if the key statistic associated with Woods ever goes back to greens in regulation, one thing is becoming clear.

No one will ever look at him the same.

Ask yourself this question: If you've seen Woods lately in the U.S. PGA Tour's commercial on charity, was it jarring?

Almost as shocking as the allegations of infidelity is the swiftness of his fall. For 13 years on the U.S. PGA Tour -- longer if you go back to his six straight U.S. titles as an amateur -- Woods rarely was regarded as anything but an indomitable figure.

Just like that, he has become the butt of jokes.

His colleagues, who once spoke about him with reverence, now take pity. Even John Daly feels sorry for him.

Despite being among the most famous athletes in the world, we knew so little about Woods. Now we know too much. Woods managed to keep himself out of the tabloids for years only to be the cover boy now.

The big development on Tuesday featured yet another emergency phone call, another ambulance inside the exclusive gated community of Isleworth at an address everyone now knows. This time, it was to take his mother-in-law, Barbro Holmberg, to the hospital for stomach pains. She was released later Tuesday.

There's no word when Woods might return. His caddie, Steve Williams, told the New Zealand Herald over the weekend that he expected to be back on the bag at the San Diego Open. That was merely a comment to show he was standing by the boss. Not even his caddie knows when Woods will be back in public.

The last tournament Woods played spoke to his iconic status around the world. He won the Australian Masters before enormous crowds, with so much foot traffic that it kicked up dust from the sandbelt course and caused Woods to wipe the grime from his face.

The woman keeping score on the last day at Kingston Heath whispered to the teenager carrying the scoreboard, "This is the holy grail in golf." Given the publicity and the amount of allegations, does she still feel that way?

Until this salacious saga began on Nov. 27 with a car accident outside his home, few embarrassing moments for Woods made headlines.

GQ magazine caught him telling racial jokes while riding in a limousine. His father once called him the "Chosen One" and said he would do more than anyone to change the course of humanity. A boom mike on the 18th hole at Pebble Beach picked up an obscenity-laced tirade when he hit a tee shot into the ocean. Woods threw a club that bounced into the gallery in Australia.

This is what used to pass as a scandal for Woods.

He has been the subject of TV show host David Letterman's "Top 10" list twice in the last four months. The first occasion was in August after Y.E. Yang beat him on the final day in the U.S. PGA Championship. Back then, the unflattering moment for Woods was about his golf, not his life. Among the top 10 excuses why Woods lost: "Would you practice if you had a hot, Swedish wife?"

Letterman poked fun at Woods again on Monday with the top 10 ways how Woods can improve his image. On the list were safely landing a golf cart in the Hudson River, fixing the health-care mess, and crashing a state dinner at the White House.

Even that might not be enough.

Woods is not the first athlete to be dragged down by what he referred to as "personal failings." It's just that few other examples came as such as a shock, even to some of those who are closest to him.

Still to be determined is whether so much calamity off the course will affect Woods inside the ropes.

The 33-year-old Woods most likely is just now coming into the prime of his career, already having won 14 majors in pursuit of the record 18 won by Jack Nicklaus. Next year would seem to be the ideal time to make up ground, with the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach and the British Open at St. Andrews.

Accenture, meanwhile, continues to feature Woods on the home page of its Web site. He is standing in the desert rough, surrounded by cactus plants, trying to figure out his next move. "Opportunity isn't always obvious," the headline says.

The third berth in the finale went to Amanda: Once again, fans of the show voted her into the final weigh-in for the grand prize, just as they telephoned their support to give her a spot at the ranch in this season that was all about second chances. Pretty in pink -- in keeping with her team's color -- Amanda was glowing at 163 pounds. She started at 250 pounds and lost 87, or 34.80% of her body weight. And she didn't really care that she wasn't really in the running for the grand prize. She got something better, she said: I got my life back.
The at-home winner turned out to be Rebecca, who looked completely transformed thanks to a sleek new physique -- and a short-cropped blonde 'do. She started at 279 pounds, and lost 139 pounds, or 49.82% of her body weight. For her troubles, she won $100,000. Asked how she felt, she quipped: "I feel like $100,000" and did a little jig.
But there was a third check tonight, for fan favorite Shay, a 30-year-old Newport Beach social worker who arrived at the ranch at 476 pounds -- more than any other contestant, man or woman -- lost 172 pounds, pleasing Bob and Jillian, who more than once voiced concerns about her morbid obesity. It wasn't enough to come close to winning the money. But Shay's bright eyes and kind demeanor, untarnished by an abusive upbringing at the hands of a homeless, drug-addicted mother, also caught the eye of show sponsor Subway. In a surprise move, the health-oriented fast food chain has offered to pay Shay $1,000 for every pound she loses between now and the Season 9 finale in May.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night wasn't really a surprise at all: Antoine got down on one knee and proposed to Alexandra, who managed to capture his heart despite being on the ranch just all of one week.

We've gotten a lot of emails asking what we've been up to and felt it was time to send everyone an update.

Since winning The Next Great American Band we've been on a bit of a journey discovering who we are as a group. Although we have grown up playing music together with our family, the three of us hadn't spent much time alone, as a band, making music. So we set out to do just that, play and write together and try new things. During this time we've really grown.

Right after the show we started writing and working with a ton of different songwriters in Nashville. As time went by we realized our style and sound were going in a new, different direction. It was a very natural "evolution" and we are so glad to have been given the time to get where we are today. We're making music that we truly love with the hope that it will touch people.

So now for the big news. With everything we've gone through and after much thought and discussion, we've decided to change the name of our band to...SONS OF SYLVIA!!

We are so excited about the music we're creating and the new band name. We've been working with some amazing people and even got the opportunity to work on a song with someone very special, which you should be hearing in the next few months ;)

So that's our update. We truly thank you for your continued support and we're looking forward to being able to share new music with you!

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Minnesota linebacker E.J. Henderson broke his leg against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday in a brutal injury that will apparently sideline him for the season while dealing a serious blow to the Vikings' defensive unit.

Henderson fractured his femur while trying to tackle Tim Hightower late in the fourth quarter - his leg twisting violently as he went down. He was taken off the field on a motorized cart after doctors spent several minutes attending to the star linebacker. His brother and teammate, Erin, held Henderson's hand as they were driven to the locker room.

Coach Brad Childress said Henderson will spend the night in Phoenix and undergo surgery.

Henderson has been a key part of Minnesota's defensive success this season, and it was the second straight year that his season was cut short with injury.

A report says, “Blake Lively was the host of SNL December 5, 2009. She was pretty good, but the show was uneven. Wisteria Lane has to be the most dangerous cul de sac and Fairview, the most disaster prone town in the country! Hostage drama, tornadoes, club fires, and now a small plane crash on top of the Desperate Housewives! So, who died in this latest catastrophe? There are a least a few candidates: one crazy woman and a soon to be useless ex-husband are good possibilities.

The small plane that Karl rented to trail a banner saying, “Will you marry me, Bree” was piloted by a bickering middle aged couple whose bad marriage ended with, “till death do us part”. The plane crash landed, literally sliding down on its belly on Wisteria Lane. Who was killed? Mona who was blackmailing Angie about her sketchy past was killed first and maybe Bree, Karl or Orson. Bree’s a major character, so count her out! To be continued in January!

The last quota of the season-ending episodes of the “Desperate Housewives” saw more of the sad sage of Dave, the man bereaved of his family than of the desperate housewives.

The bulk of this season’s episodes of the ABC series of “Desperate Housewives” went away in milking the twisted tale of desperate Dave trying to get revenge , which finally culminated on Sunday at the same crosswords where his wife and his daughter had met their death in a car crash with Mike and Susan, played by James Denton and Teri Hatcher respectively.

Dave’s (Neal McDonough) the tale of revenge provided fire and story to this season of the ABC series. His want to take the life of Mike’s and Susan’s son MJ and of Mike as well in order to justify the demise ofhis family made up for all the script, to keep the writers busy during the whole of this season.

The season finale episode of the desperate housewives saw, Dave sparing his would be victims following the angelic appearance of his dead daughter. At the end of the episode, when Mike in order to rescue his wife and his son crashed into the car of Dave, his want for revenge all seemed to evaporate. The out of sorts widower released MJ without inflicting any harm to him.

After their lives were spared by Dave, the family embraced each other with a small family huddle and the two Mike and Susan also shared a passionate kiss bringing a close to the revenge matter.
As for Dave, he was last seen in a psychiatric facility lost within himself and with a smile on his face.
